Bristol's St Pauls Carnival committee has appointed a new chair.

Cleo Lake is now in charge of organising the annual festival, taking over from Rebecca Gibbs who has stepped down from the board.

The 2012 carnival was cancelled following uncertainty over the safety of participants and spectators. This year's event is scheduled for 6 July.

In February organisers had warned the event would be "scaled-back" due to a lack of donations.

Board member Mary Slattery has also stepped down.

A statement from St Pauls Carnival said: "We would like to thank Mary and Rebecca for all the hard work they have done for St Pauls Carnival over the past couple of years."

Julian Davis, the former artistic director of the event, resigned in March, saying the event did not have the "trust or co-operation" of the community.

About 90,000 people attended the St Pauls Carnival in July 2011 which cost £250,000 to stage.
