A cyclist who fell into the water at Bristol docks after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest has died, police confirmed.

Two passers-by jumped into the docks near the M shed to try to rescue the man, who was in his 40s, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said.

The man was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the passers-by was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary later as a precaution after being in the water.

An appeal for witnesses to the incident has been made.
