Avon and Somerset Police honour fallen colleagues

Avon and Somerset Police have held memorial events to honour colleagues killed on duty.

A private service at police headquarters in Portishead was followed by a parade and church service in Weston-super-Mare town centre.

Chief Constable Nick Gargan, Avon and Somerset's Police and Crime Commissioner, Sue Mountstevens, and senior officers attended.

The events were being held to mirror a national memorial event in Cardiff.

The memorial parade, made up of regular officers, special constables, police community support officers and police staff, was first held in Weston in 2006.

The parade was bolstered by the ceremonial mounted section, the mace escort team, the Avon Fire and Rescue Band, the Avon and Somerset police choir and the Blue Knights police motorcycle charity fundraising group.

Representatives from North Somerset Council and Weston-super-Mare Town Council also supported the event.
