Barry Rubery murder: Two arrested men released without charge

Two men arrested on suspicion of the murder of a Bristol man four years ago have been released without charge.

Barry Rubery, 68, was found bound and beaten to death at his home in Iron Acton on 28 April 2010. A number of his belongings had been stolen.

Police said the two men, aged 19 and 30, who were arrested last month in Bristol and Peterborough, will face no further action.

Mr Rubery died on the evening of the attack.

He returned home to Crossing Cottage in Latteridge Road, after attending a dinner at a Bristol Masonic Lodge. Police believe he disturbed a burglary, which was taking place.

Officers said the former farm worker was attacked so ferociously that he may have been specifically targeted.

He was found dead the following morning, having sustained serious head injuries and bruising to his face. He had also been tied up with electrical cable.

A Crimewatch appeal shortly after his death resulted in a number of calls from the public but no firm leads, despite the offer of a £10,000 reward.

A "dedicated" team of officers from Avon and Somerset Police remains on the case.

The release of the two arrested men means there is nobody currently under arrest and no other suspects on bail.
