Fifth Bristol cash machine 'blown up'

Avon and Somerset Police were called to reports of a fire at the Lloyds Bank in Shirehampton

A bank cash machine in Bristol has been "blown up" overnight, in the fifth such incident in the city in a year.

Police were called to the burning Lloyds Bank ATM in High Street, Shirehampton, shortly after 02:00 BST.

A force spokesman said cash had been taken from the machine by suspects who left the scene in two cars.

One of the cars was later stopped and a 19-year-old man arrested. He is still in police custody.

Similar attacks - in which witnesses reported "loud bangs" - have also recently taken place in Brislington and St George, with two in Bedminster.

Police have previously said that a gas cylinder may have been used to cause an explosion in the Brislington attack.
