Three men have been jailed for plotting to blow up a cash machine in Bristol.

Jamie Bessell, 27, of Elm Hayes, Luke Paul Needham, 28, of Buttercup Walk, and Brennan Steven Hartrey, 25, of Tregarth Road, were sentenced to six years each.

All three pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court to charges of conspiracy to steal and to cause an explosion.

The men were caught in July after police discovered gas canisters in Needham's car.

Hartrey and Bessell, who were travelling in a separate car, were arrested at a house in south Bristol following a police pursuit.

Det Con Victoria Kelvin, from Avon and Somerset Police, said: "What these three men planned to do was attack an ATM using a very dangerous method which could not only have endangered their lives but others too."
