Plans to build a new £300m Bristol University campus in the city centre have been announced.

The new campus - the university's second in the city - will house a "digital innovation hub" as well as a "business school of the future".

The university said it was assessing "potential locations" for the new complex, which could be open by 2021.

Dr Erik Lithander, pro vice-chancellor, said its current campus was "reaching capacity".

He said: "A development of a new campus has been on our minds for a few years.

"We're looking at a number of locations but we do want to be right in the heart of the city.

"It's an ambitious timescale but a project of this size will be phased and we're hoping that the first phase will be ready for use by 2021."

Along with creating a new "future-focused campus", the university is also planning to improve its Clifton site.

The area around Tyndall Avenue will be remodelled to provide a new university library and student resource hub.

The university said it hopes to make an announcement on the location of its new campus in the coming weeks.
