Two friends and fellow band members are cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money and awareness for a neurological condition.

Mark Evans and Ian McGuire also plan to perform a free gig each night at local venues along their route.

They are hoping to raise £5,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association to put towards funding research projects.

Mr Evans was inspired to take on the challenge after the death of his brother-in-law to MND in March.

The duo set-off on 9 October and will be covering about 80 miles (128.9km) a day for two weeks.

They are part of a Bristol cover band called Tundra and are being joined by a third band member, Guy Gibbs, who is driving the support vehicle carrying supplies and equipment.

"It affects so many people, and even to just be able to know what it is for someone, so they can plan and manage their life for whatever they've got left, is so important," Mr Evans said.

The two men initially set out to raise £2,000 for the charity, but after donations on their Just Giving page began pouring in, they set a revised total and it currently stands at more than £3,500.

Mr Evans launched the fundraiser after the death of his 54-year-old brother-in-law, Paul Bradley, to MND.

Mr Bradley's wife, Christine Evans-Bradley, hopes the fundraiser will also promote awareness of the disease and educate others about recognising the symptoms.

"We didn't expect to lose him so quickly.

"He was the love of my life" she said.
