Kingswood murder investigation: Woman dies and man arrested
- Published
A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman.
Police officers attended a property in Kingswood, on the edge of Bristol, at around 15:50 GMT on Monday.
They found a woman with significant injuries at a house in Wedmore Close and carried out CPR. She was pronounced dead at 16:30.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the property and police have issued an appeal for information.
While formal identification has not yet taken place, the woman's next of kin have been informed. A forensic post-mortem examination is due to take place later to determine her cause of death.
A cordon is in place at the scene and Avon and Somerset Police say they are treating the death as an "isolated incident involving people known to each other".
Neighbourhood policing Ch Insp Dan Forster said: "Tragically, there were a number of children inside the property at the time of the incident and while thankfully they weren't hurt, there are understandably distressed at what has happened.
"I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to them and the victim's wider family during what is undoubtedly a very difficult time.
"The children are currently being looked after by a family member and specially trained officers will provide them with support."
Police will be carrying out increased patrols in the area over the coming days "to provide reassurance to the wider community", Ch Insp Forster added.
A mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct to review the circumstances of officers' response to the incident.
