Police are investigating after a house with children inside it was set on fire in the middle of the night.

Although nobody was injured, police say the attack could have been "devastating".

Officers said the front door of a house on Blagrove Crescent in south Bristol was set alight at around 02:40 GMT on Sunday.

The fire was extinguished by the occupants prior to the fire service's arrival, police said.

"The outcome could've been devastating had one of the residents not smelled smoke and raised the alarm," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police added.

Anyone with information or CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage is asked to contact the police.

PC David Thorne said: "All those at the address have been left shaken by the incident.

"We're doing everything we can to find those responsible."
