Avon Fire and Rescue's chief fire officer has condemned "mindless behaviour" after a firefighter was injured tackling a series of blazes which were started deliberately.

Crews were called out to multiple fires in Eastville, Bristol on 12 January.

One firefighter was injured and taken to hospital, where they are now recovering.

"Every day firefighters put themselves in high-risk situations to keep our communities safe," said Simon Shilton.

"I am annoyed that the mindless behaviour of some individuals in our community has resulted in a firefighter being injured through their deliberate and conscious act.

"I hope this is a reminder of the significant consequences that fire can have on the community and those that serve to protect them," he said.

Avon and Somerset Police is investigating the incident.

The city's mayor Marvin Rees said on social media platform X: "My thoughts are with the firefighter who was injured while protecting our community, and their family."

Mr Rees urged anyone with information about the arson incidents to contact police.
