A driver who ignored signs that a major motorway bridge was shut in high winds ended up crashing into the central reservation.

Emergency crews were called to the M48 Severn Bridge after the crash on Thursday.

Avon and Somerset Police said the accident happened when the driver was "caught out by a heavy gust of wind".

"This action not only put their life in danger but also those of the responding emergency services," the force said.
