Bristol in pictures: Images from across the city

Walking theatre group Show of Strength performers are out and about telling the story of famous pirate Blackbeard

At any point over a weekend there are dozens of photographers out and about in Bristol capturing snapshots of life, from news to sport and live entertainment.

Here is a selection of images taken in the city this weekend.

Absolutely flying: James Williams scores Bristol Bears' fifth try against Newcastle Falcons at Ashton Gate on Sunday. The Bears racked up 13 tries in total, winning the match by an incredible scoreline of 85-14.

Wheel heroes: A small number of the volunteers who headed to Ashton Court to repair the mountain bike trails pause during their labours. They were taking part in the Ride Bristol Spring Big Dig, keeping the popular trails safe for the many riders who use them for free every week.

Last time at the Mem: The Pirates of Bristol Rovers failed to make it three wins in a row as they were defeated 2-0 by Peterborough United on Saturday in their last home game of the season.

Massive message: Artist Hasan Kamil painted this huge mural on the side of the Avon Fire and Rescue training tower at Temple Fire Station. The mural, created by Redcliffe & Temple Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Upfest, is designed to show that crews respond to different emergency situations, not just fires.

Now hear this: The Sleeping Beauty is coming to the end of its short run at the Bristol Hippodrome. Next up is a 10-week run of Hamilton, which has already caused something of a ticket frenzy among the city's theatre lovers.

Crowd pleaser: Sarah Stratigakis of Bristol City signs a flag for a fan after the Barclays Women´s Super League match between Bristol City and Liverpool FC at Ashton Gate on Saturday. The match finished 1-0 to the visitors.

In memory: A mass workout organised by south Bristol gym Trojan Fitness took place on Saturday in memory of aid worker James Kirby. He was one of seven World Central Kitchen volunteers who died when their convoy was hit by an Israeli air strike near Gaza City.

Slow progress: About 160 riders took part in the Kidical Mass and Safe Streets Now ride through the city centre on Saturday. The deliberately slow event was aimed at promoting safety for children on the roads. Similar events took place across the West.

Celebrating carers: A giant mural has appeared on billboards close to the M32, painted by Bristol Women's Voice members, the People's Republic of Stokes Croft and the Value the Caring Economy Alliance. The artwork, which involves city residents adding their own handprints, is aimed at showing the wide support for people who work in care in the city.

Old meets new: Bristol Ferry Boats launched their new historic water tours at the weekend, to celebrate the birthday of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the engineer whose legacy can be seen in multiple locations in the city.
