Wisbech murder: Una Crown's brother speaks of shock

The brother of a woman found dead at her Cambridgeshire home, has spoken of his family's shock at her murder.

Una Crown, 86, was found in her bungalow in Magazine Lane, Wisbech, on 13 January. She had been stabbed and her body burned.

Terry White, 75, said: "It wasn't a very nice thing to happen to anybody, but at that age you expect to die nice and peacefully."

Mrs Crown's funeral was held at King's Lynn Crematorium earlier.

'Well-liked'

Mr White, a retired draughtsman, said the niece of Mrs Crown's late husband had gone round to the house to take her out for lunch, but could not get in.

Mr White said his sister was well-liked and well-known in Wisbech

"They hadn't got a key, the curtains were drawn and they sensed something was wrong," he said.

"The police went round there and they went in with a key they'd borrowed from the next-door neighbour."

Mr White, of Trumpington, near Cambridge, said the family had been particularly distressed that Mrs Crown's body had also suffered burns.

She had lived in Wisbech with her late husband Jack who had been village postmaster in Elm.

"She seemed to be well-liked and well-known," he said.

A 58-year-old man arrested on 31 January is currently on bail.
