A1 60mph limit confirmed for part of Cambridgeshire

The speed limit along part of the A1 through Cambridgeshire is to be reduced from 70mph to 60mph, the Highways Agency has confirmed.

A spokesman said the agency was "aware of residents' safety concerns" along a stretch between Buckden and Southoe.

Recently, members of Buckden WI were so concerned they recorded a plea for improvements, to the tune of Jerusalem.

Average speed cameras will also be installed and the work is expected to be completed by the summer of 2014.

David Abbott, Highways Agency asset manager, said: "The new speed limit and average speed cameras will cover the A1 between Buckden, and 300 metres (985ft) south of Lees Lane, Southoe.

"This will help to manage traffic flows along the A1 through the villages of Buckden, Diddington and Southoe and address recent safety concerns."
