A cow had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in a Cambridgeshire river.

Officers wearing wetsuits used specialist animal rescue equipment to pull the animal from the River Great Ouse near Little Thetford, earlier.

A vet had to sedate the distressed animal before it could be removed.

Station commander Paul Clarke said the cow recovered well after its ordeal, and was returned to its nearby herd unharmed.
