Cambridge United beat Gateshead at Wembley to seal promotion to the football league

Cambridge United are to mark their promotion to the Football League and FA Trophy win with an open-top bus tour.

The victorious journey will begin at the club's Abbey Stadium home at 10:00 BST on Saturday with players, management - and silverware - on board.

The bus will then travel down Newmarket Road, Jesus Lane and Trinity Street before the players line the balcony at the Guildhall on Market Square.

U's chairman Dave Doggett said he hoped it would be a "big party".

After the Guildhall the players will be driven along King's Parade, Downing Street and Regent Street before returning to the club for a civic reception.

Mr Doggett said there would be plenty of opportunities for fans to line the route and agreed it would be a "fitting end" to the club's season.

He said the club was already "way over" last year's season ticket sales months before life in League Two begins.
