An upside down give-way road marking which has been causing amusement for residents of Cambridge has been fixed.

Winci Tam spotted the newly painted "topsy-turvy" sign on Kendal Way at its junction with Milton Road last week.

The Greater Cambridge Partnership, which is overseeing work along Milton Road, apologised and repainted it.

Ms Tam said she was not sure the amended version was any better and it looked like "a poor, quick fix".

She posted a photograph of the upside down marking on Facebook group Odd Things Around Cambridge, external.

She said it forced her to check the Highway Code, external in case it was a new instruction, but she was "amused" to discover that it was just "topsy-turvy".

The official road marking - a triangle pointing towards your car, external as you approach a junction - indicates the driver must give way to traffic ahead.

However, the one on Kendal Way pointed away from the car.

A number of people commented on the online photo, with some proclaiming "you had one job".

However, that one job has now been fixed, with the errant white triangle painted over, and a fresh new one added - the right way round.

"The previous triangle appears to have been covered with black paint," said Ms Tam, joking that it might soon become "a tourist attraction".

A spokesman for the Greater Cambridge Partnership, which is overseeing the £24m upgrade in the area, apologised for any inconvenience caused by the wayward give-way road marking.
