Fire has destroyed two brand new houses in what police said was an arson attack.

The blaze started at about 21:40 BST on Friday at The How, a new development on Houghton Road in St Ives.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service sent three crews to bring the fire under control.

An investigation on Saturday concluded the cause of the the fire was deliberate and a police cordon remains in place.

Det Insp Nicola Lamport, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "This fire has caused a considerable amount of damage and while there is no estimate on the cost at this time, two new-build properties have been destroyed meaning it will likely be hundreds of thousands of pounds.

"We are treating the fire as arson so I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed anything at all suspicious."
