Daisy the Cow milks the applause after her front end fell off stage during a Jack and the Beanstalk panto

Panto-goers got more than they bargained for when the front-end of Daisy the Cow toppled off stage during a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Neil Burton, 62, fell into the front row during a Peakirk and Newborough Dramatic Society pantomime in Newborough, Cambridgeshire.

Daisy's back-end managed to stay put and only Mr Burton's ego was bruised.

Mr Burton, the show's director, said he might add Whoopsie to Daisy's name.

He said he was delighted to hear the panto mentioned on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire - then had second thoughts.

"When I heard we were on the radio I was 'over the moon', then I heard why, and I wanted to put my head in a bucket," said Mr Burton.

"I could probably see more out of that than through the cow's head".

'Hilarious'

Daisy took at tumble during an opening night performance at Newborough Village Hall on Saturday.

The show will go on again at nearby Peakirk Village Hall on 10 February.

"I just totally lost where I was and landed on some children sat in front of the stage," said Mr Burton.

"They thought it was hilarious and because it is am-dram, people do like it when things go wrong.

"As the director I didn't find it as funny, and I am very embarrassed now."

He added: "I can't promise that I will or won't fall off again, but everyone is welcome to come and join us."

Mr Burton said the society was looking for new young members and urged budding actors to get touch.
