Police have shut a road in Cambridge after a "serious" crash

Police have urged motorists to avoid an area of Cambridge following a "serious" road crash.

Officers said a road would be closed for "several hours" as a result of the single-vehicle collision.

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Police said the crash happened shortly before 10:00 GMT at the junction between Tenison Road and Station Road in the city.

She said police and paramedics were at the scene.

Posting on X, external, the force said: "Tenison Road, Cambridge currently closed due to serious road traffic collision.

"The road is likely to be closed for several hours."

Bus services were affected.

Stagecoach East said buses were "unable to serve the rail station".

The firm said on X, external that passengers should use "Hills Road stops instead".

Whippet said buses could not call at stops by the Botanic Garden or rail station.
