Police officers investigating a hit-and-run that left a woman seriously injured have appealed to drivers whose vehicles were seen in the area.

The 50-year-old from Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, was found in a ditch beside Beach Road just after midnight on 12 February.

She remains in Addenbrooke's Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Cambridgeshire Police said it wanted to speak to four people who were driving in the village that evening.

The force said that the woman, who was wearing dark clothing, left her home for a walk at about 18:00 GMT on 11 February. When she failed to return home several hours later, family members went to look for her.

She was found at about midnight with serious injuries by the side of Beach Road, an area that had no street lighting or clear footpath, the force added.

PC Mathew Waters, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "It's been a difficult investigation as there were no witnesses, and it was dark.

"We have used CCTV from a nearby shop in Cottenham and identified several vehicles whose owners we would like to speak with.

"We're keen to speak to anyone who was driving a red Ford Focus, silver Kia Rio, silver Daihatsu Terios with a missing spare wheel or a blue VW Polo along Beach Road just after 18:00 GMT that evening.

"We are treating anyone in these vehicles as potential witnesses, and any information they have - no matter how small - could be crucial to our investigation. This includes dashcam footage."
