Cambridge railway lines closed after person dies

Railway lines have been shut after a person was hit by a train

Emergency services have said a person has died after an incident on a railway line.

Police officers were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Bishop's Stortford at 10:30 BST.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Railway lines have been shut between Cambridge and Bishop's Stortford and Stansted Airport to Cambridge in both directions.

Disruption was expected to last until 13:00 BST.

Services from Hertford East to Liverpool Street and Stansted to Norwich were operating as normal.

A spokesperson from the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Bishop's Stortford at around 10:30 BST today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A National Rail spokesperson said: "Services between Hertford East and Liverpool Street are unaffected.

"Services between Stansted and Norwich are also operating as normal.
