A father whose family were given free tickets to a Wembley football final said his team's win made "dreams come true".

Kieran, 39, and children Emilia and Jakub were at Wembley to see Peterborough United beat Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Trophy final.

The third anniversary of his mother's death was on Tuesday, also his son's ninth birthday.

He said he hoped the match would create happy memories at previously sad time.

Two days after the death of his mother, Kieran's father, a "huge Posh supporter", also died.

The tickets for Sunday's match, which Peterborough won 2-1, came courtesy of the Posh & Free Kicks Foundation Ticket Fund, set up to help supporters who might otherwise struggle to attend.

Kieran, from March, Cambridgeshire, applied because of how proud he was in, Emilia, 13, and Jakub for their resilience following the deaths.

The Free Kicks Foundation selected nominees for VIP tickets in Club Wembley and an executive box.

"Both on the pitch and in our hearts, dreams came true, but for me it wasn't about the match it was about their matchday experience and the euphoria on their faces," said Kieran.

"I missed the winning goal, and what an amazing goal it was, because I was distracted watching their excitement.

"They couldn't stop talking about it and it's all thanks to the Free Kicks Foundation and Peterborough United Football Club.

"They were smiling from the moment they got on the coach until they went to sleep - it was magical."

He said that since the match, Jakub had stopped playing video game EA Sports FC24 as Paris Saint Germain in favour of Posh.

Over £5,000 was raised by fans to give others the chance to watch their side play in the final.

Through the fund, 110 Peterborough fans were given the chance to go to Wembley.
