Fears over netting ban on River Tamar in Cornwall

Salmon fishermen who agreed to a temporary halt to netting on the River Tamar in Cornwall fear the ban may not be lifted.

Compensation was paid to some while others opted to continue paying an annual fee to retain their licences.

The Environment Agency says it is hopeful stocks may have recovered to allow the ban to be lifted.

But one fisherman, Alec Friendship, said he feared 400-year-old skills will die out if the ban is not lifted.
