Cornwall Council seeks road scheme cash

A £16m bid has been submitted by Cornwall Council to the government for a series of roads to be built.

The authority said the project between Camborne and Redruth would generate investment of more than £300m.

Cornwall Council said it would provide £3.6m, and hoped £7m would be paid by a third party contributor. The total cost was £26.8m, it said.

The bid has been submitted to the Department for Transport and a decision is expected by the end of the year.

The project could provide 5,500 new jobs and 7,500 homes over the next 20 years, the council said.

It would provide a new East West link from Dolcoath to Dudnance Lane, across the Red River Valley, and from Dudnance Lane to Wilson Way, said the authority.

Nigel Tipple, chief executive of the Camborne, Pool and Redruth Regeneration Company, said: "If approved it will assist in attracting further investment and much needed jobs in the area.

"Delivery of the scheme would provide access to key employment and housing land."
