Free transport for college students in Cornwall

  • Published

Free transport is to be offered to 16 to 18-year-olds studying at colleges in Cornwall who come from households earning less than £31,000.

Cornwall College and Truro & Penwith College said the scheme would be available to new and returning students from September.

Some of the funding has come from the Cornwall Bursary, which aims to help local students stay in education.

It replaces the Education Maintenance Allowance axed in government cuts.

Cornwall College has more than 45,000 students on full and part-time courses at seven sites across the county - Camborne, Newquay, St Austell, Saltash, Duchy College Rosewarne and Stoke Climsland and Falmouth Marine School.

Truro & Penwith has more than 5,000 full-time and 11,000 part-time students.
