Landslip closes section of Whitsand Bay coast path

Surveyors said the Whitsand Bay landslip may stabilise

A section of coastal path in a bay in south east Cornwall has been closed for six months because of a landslip.

A temporary diversion has been put in place after the slip near Tregonhawke in Whitsand Bay over the weekend.

The land is owned by the Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, whose management is overseen by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council jointly.

Surveyors said the area may stabilise. If not, the route may have to be permanently diverted, managers said.

The closed section of path, a popular area with walkers, is the only access to a number group of holiday chalets.

The buildings were not believed to be under threat from the slip and work would be carried out to allow owners access to their chalets, site managers said.
