Cornish hospitals in 'phone ahead' call over Norovirus

People are being urged to phone ahead before visiting two Cornish hospitals, to limit the spread of Norovirus.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital and West Cornwall Hospital said no more than two people at a time should visit patients.

Symptoms include a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Outpatient clinics are running but anyone with symptoms should avoid visiting the hospital for at least 48 hours after they have gone.

Two wards are currently closed at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, while others are being tested for Norovirus.

Joint Director of Infection Prevention and Control, Louise Dickinson, said: "We have seen an increase in the number of patients with symptoms.

"It is important to us to respond quickly when this is brought into our hospitals in order to minimise disruption as Norovirus can spread easily and rapidly."
