Thousands of people have attended the annual City of Lights festival in Truro, Cornwall

The theme of this year's parade was "expect the unexpected" and local artists helped hundreds of local schoolchildren create their lanterns.

Held in the city since 1995, the City of Lights procession coincides with the switching on of Truro's Christmas lights.

Organisers estimate the festival attracts about 25,000 people a year.

Bands and dancers accompanied the procession of lanterns through the city centre.
