Four people had to be rescued from a car stuck in flood water as heavy rain and wind caused disruption across the south-west of England.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service received reports of people trapped inside a vehicle in St Kew, Cornwall, at about 20:00 BST on Wednesday.

The driver and three passengers managed to get on to the roof of the car and were rescued using throw lines.

Devon County Council's Highways Control has been dealing with 80 incidents.

BBC Radio Devon reported this included flooding on Weycroft Bridge in Axminster, Station Road in Broadclyst and a number of fallen trees.

There are flood warnings in place for the River Otter, Clyst, Culm, Coly, Axe and Torridge from Dalton to Bideford.

Special Constabulary Sgt Devin Clark-Call said on Twitter there had been "lots of weather related incidents and a few road traffic collisions" in East Devon.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it had also been "extremely busy" having logged about 300 flooding related calls overnight, including multiple calls from concerned residents of Holway House Park in Ilminster, south Somerset, at about 01:00 on Thursday.

The site, containing 30 park homes, started to flood quickly and 10 residents were rescued by fire crews.

"Due to concern for the elderly residents, who were unable to leave their properties, fire appliances dealing with flooding incidents elsewhere were diverted to attend this incident, as well as mobilising a water rescue boat team from Exmouth," Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.

The fire service has also advised people to not drive through water saying it is dangerous.

It said: "If you do try to do this and get stuck, please get out of the vehicle and arrange for recovery. We do not recover vehicles."
