Devon and Cornwall Police said the boy's family were being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

The road was closed at the scene for an investigation to take place and was reopened at about 01:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Officers are calling for any witnesses or anyone who has any information or dashcam footage that could help with enquiries, to come forward.

A police surgery was held at Morrison's car park on Agar Road between 13:00 and 14:00 GMT for witnesses to speak to officers.

Local officers will also be on patrol at the start and end of the school day in the area for the next few days "to provide added reassurance", said police.
