A major new road near Newquay in Cornwall is moving one step closer with the installation of a new bridge over the railway.

The 25m (82ft) single-arch bridge is being built over the Newquay-Par branch line by Network Rail.

There will be 16 pre-cast concrete units lifted in overnight on Saturday and Sunday.

The new road will connect the community of Nansledan to the A392 at the Hendra roundabout.

Cornwall Council said the road - known as the Newquay Strategic Route - will improve traffic flow east of Newquay and include space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Richard Pears, Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for transport, said: "The Newquay Strategic Route will have long-lasting benefits for residents - reducing traffic in residential areas, supporting the local and wider economy and transport including active travel links, and enable the building of new homes."

The new road is expected to open in summer 2024.
