She said: "I was just walking the dogs on the beach like I always do and there it was being washed about on the shoreline. I generally fill up a carrier bag with rubbish when out walking but this said 1977 which was ridiculous.

"Sadly in some ways doesn't surprise me too much as there is so much plastic pollution, but this had been floating around for quite a few years.

"I was four when that offer was on and £4.98 for tracksuit isn't bad - it would cost a lot more than that these days."

The orange, brown and white packet features a picture of a famously permed Kevin Keegan on the front, along with his signature.

The back contains the information about the offer, including a closing date of 1 October 1977.

A statement purporting to be from Mr Keegan also says: "Whatever sport you enjoy, you need a good tracksuit and I know that lots of boys and girls like to wear them all the time."

It adds: "Made in a good quality nylon fabric, these tracksuits are tough, long lasting and very easy to wash and dry, so Mum will like your new tracksuit as much as you do!"

Ms Beckley said she intends to frame the rare packet that is in "almost perfect" condition.

According to the Inflation Tool website, £5 in 1977 would be equivalent to £31.20 in 2023.

Kevin Keegan played for clubs including Liverpool, Newcastle, Southampton, and made 63 appearances for England between 1972 and 1982.
