Cornwall Council is looking for highly-skilled bathroom contractors to help keep people out of hospital and residential care

Cornwall Council is looking for bathroom fitters who can help provide appropriate facilities for vulnerable and disabled residents.

It is calling for tradespeople to come forward if they can assist with "safe and accessible facilities".

Along with their trade skills, the council said it also wants applicants who are "caring and sensitive".

It said the work will also help promote wellbeing in those involved.

Cornwall council cabinet member for adults and public health, Andy Virr, said: "These desperately needed adaptations help promote people's wellbeing, minimise their risk of accidents and help keep people out of hospital and residential care.

"As well as being a highly skilled tradesperson you will need a caring and sensitive approach, have an understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality and be DBS checked."

'Drive to recruit'

Cllr Olly Monk, cabinet member for housing and planning, said recent adaptations have "drastically improved people's lives".

He said: "In one case a terminally ill person urgently needed an adapted toilet and with the help of a bathroom contractor they were able to get the toilet installed within a few days."

The person described feeling "gobsmacked" that it was approved and arranged quickly and said it had "truly lifted" them.

Contractors who wish to get involved are asked to make contact, external.
