Bude skatepark redevelopment makes crucial step forward - mayor

Redevelopers said they hoped the revamped skatepark would catered to a "diverse range" of users

A contractor has been chosen to redevelop a skatepark in Cornwall, a council has announced.

Bude-Stratton Town Council said CANVAS Spaces Limited had been appointed to create a "bespoke modern skatepark" at Crooklets Beach.

Mayor Mike Dawe said the partnership represented a "crucial step forward".

CANVAS design director John Flood said the firm hoped to develop a facility that catered to a "diverse range" of users and abilities.

'First of its kind'

The contractor has a history of skatepark innovation which dates back to 2013, the council said.

It added that it had selected the contractor for its commitment to creating a "vibrant community-focused" area.

Mr Flood said the firm planned to regenerate the existing space to incorporate a separate low-level, spacious area and a unique surf-skate feature in what he said was the "the first of its kind."

He said: "Expect to see a facility unique to Bude, developed with the local community.

"The result will be a space that will be cherished, encourage participation, and enjoyed for many years to come."

The council said initial concept designs were intended as a springboard for a forthcoming public consultation process.

The early stages of design had not been finalised but intend to encourage community input, it said.

Mr Dawe said the partnership with CANVAS represented a "crucial step forward in revitalising our much-loved skatepark ensuring it will serve our community well into the future".

The council said it was committed to creating a skatepark that "truly reflects the needs, desires and creativity" of its residents.
