A number of bands due to play at an annual free festival in Coventry that was cancelled are set to perform at an event in the city centre next month.

The Godiva Festival was called off at the last minute due to conditions in the War Memorial Park following a spell of wet weather in June.

Godiva in the Square will be held in Broadgate on Sunday 23 September.

The Subways are set to headline the free event, which also features local acts Dark Actors and Russian Gun Dogs.

More than 100,000 people were expected at the Godiva Festival which was supposed to be held between 29 June and 1 July.

Coventry City Council lost £350,000 on the original event but the authority hopes "to build on the feel-good factor in the city post-Olympics" having hosted 12 football matches for the Games.
