Postbox stolen from Weston-under-Wetherley

A postbox in a Warwickshire village has been stolen with locals blaming metal thieves for its disappearance.

The box, which was attached to a wooden post on St Michael's Road in Weston-under-Wetherley, was the only postbox in the village.

The theft is believed to have taken place between Wednesday and Thursday last week and Warwickshire Police has appealed for anyone with information.

It is not known when the postbox will be replaced.

Ray Kirkwood, chairman of the village hall, said: "We were astounded to find that it had gone because somebody's had to go to the trouble of cutting it with metal cutters and everybody's debating what they took it for.

"We think possibly just the simple metal value and wondering if it's happening in other villages.

"We did think at first it was for the letters value.

"I can only think people stole it because metal is so valuable."
