Final phase of Warwickshire street light switch-off

More than 5,500 street lights in Warwickshire are being switched off overnight to help cut council costs.

Lights are due to be switched off between 00:00 and 05:30 BST in North Warwickshire and the Stratford district from Monday.

It is the final phase of an energy-saving scheme by Warwickshire County Council to turn off a total of 39,000 lights to save £500,000 a year.

The authority said it will also help cut carbon emissions by 3,000 tonnes.

It added that lights in locations such as roundabouts and pedestrian crossings would remain on, as would lights in areas covered by permanent CCTV cameras.

Street lights in Warwick, Rugby, Nuneaton and Bedworth are already switched off between midnight and 05:30 BST.
