Councillors approved proposals for the scheme near Coventry Airport

Plans for a business park near Coventry Airport have been given the go-ahead.

The £250m Coventry Gateway scheme, including warehouses, factory units, a hotel and retail outlets, was approved at Warwick District Council.

About 200 protesters were at Wednesday evening's meeting. Opponents said it was in the wrong location and there were unused industrial sites in the city which should be developed first.

It has been claimed the development could create 14,000 jobs.

Councillors followed their counterparts at Coventry City Council, which had previously approved plans for the 5 million sq ft (464,515 sq m) project.
