Staff were told on Thursday the business was closing

A jobs fair is being set up to help more than 240 people who lost their jobs at a communications firm.

Staff at Greenwoods Communications in Coleshill, Warwickshire were told on Thursday that the business, which worked with major mobile phone operators, was closing.

North Warwickshire Borough Council has been organising the jobs fair.

The authority said it "should be able" to point workers in the direction of "quite a number of vacancies".

Assistant chief executive Steve Maxey said: "Whilst obviously it's not very good for those involved, the background picture is very, very healthy in north Warwickshire.

"We're the only district in Warwickshire that's managed to create more jobs than there are people in the borough which obviously is quite a healthy situation."

In a statement, joint administrators Deloitte has said the firm provided manufacturing services and engineering repairs to telecommunications companies.

It employed 210 staff at its leasehold premises in Coleshill and 58 field engineers across the UK.

About 26 workers were being kept on to help with "the transition", Conservative MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth Dan Byles said.

Staff would be paid until the end of the month and would receive redundancy payments, he said.
