Safety concerns have forced the closure of recently-opened bike trails in Leamington Spa.

The "learn to ride" trails at Newbold Comyn have been shut because of drainage problems caused by recent wet weather.

The area has been taped off and signs have been erected, with visitors urged to "pay attention to the closure".

Warwick District Council confirmed the main mountain bike trail would remain open.

Councillor Jim Sinnott, the authority's portfolio holder for safer communities, leisure and environment, said: "It's disappointing to have to close the learn-to-ride area so soon after opening, but safety is of the utmost importance.

"Officers will now be working to rectify this issue and we will provide further updates to the public as soon as they are available."

The new trails were officially opened by the council last month.
