The site of a temporary church is being transformed into a community garden.

The site at St Catherine's church in Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry, will include space for children to play, a BBQ area and raised beds for growing vegetables and plants.

A garden room with accessible toilet and small kitchen is expected to be ready by the end of November.

Church leaders consulted residents who said there was a need for a high quality green space in the area.

They have since fundraised to cover the estimated £114,000 cost of the project.

'Hard work'

St Catherine's Church , externalused a temporary prefabricated building until 2019 while a new church was being built.

The building also housed a number of community groups and social enterprise groups, but was deemed unsafe in December 2021.

Project leader Helen Tebbatt said fundraising had been hard work but it was exciting to see the site being transformed.

The garden will be accessible to anyone to drop in during daylight hours, including food bank users, and will be available to groups who book space in the church building.
