A minute's applause is to be held at a football match for a young girl who died after a battle with cancer.

The family of two-year-old Hallie from Coventry raised £870,000 to get her treatment in the United States.

The "Rally for Hallie" has been supported by Coventry City footballers and Coventry musician Tom Grennan.

Adam Reeve, Hallie's uncle, said the applause at the Sky Blues' match against Plymouth would also be for all those who had tried to help her.

He said the club had been "brilliant with the family" and Hallie's visit to a City game with her father had been a wonderful memory for them.

The idea for the minute's applause on Tuesday night came about because Coventry City fans had "followed her journey and helped her along the way", Mr Reeve explained.

He said the gesture was "a little bit of a celebration of her little life" but would also "applaud what other people have done for her as well and especially people from Coventry".

Mr Reeve said the response to the idea, which he floated on social media, had been incredible from both Coventry and Plymoth fans and he said he had received hundreds of messages.

"I had to put my phone on silent overnight because it was waking me and my wife up," he said.

The minute's applause will be held at the 17th minute, marking the date of her birth, and Hallie's father will be in attendance.

Of the support amid the family's loss, Mr Reeve explained: "I feel that I'm not alone and no-one's alone in this."
