Former club treasurer jailed over £400k fraud

The former treasurer of a social club has been jailed for more than three years after admitting a £400,000 fraud.
Glyn Drabble used several methods to profit from Atherstone Conservative Club's earnings.
Police said that included a digital system at the bar that sent money on to the 46-year-old's personal account.
He was sentenced to 38 months in prison at a hearing at Warwick Crown Court last week.
During the case Drabble initially denied one count of fraud by abuse of position, but changed his plea to guilty in October.
He defrauded the club on Long Street of £397,920 between May 2018 and January 2022, Warwickshire Police said.
Drabble first came under suspicion during the club's transition to a new treasurer at the start of 2022, police said.
As well as the system set up in the bar, Drabble also applied for a £40,000 "bounce-back" loan following the Covid pandemic, but misrepresented this figure to the club as £25,000.
Officers added that he used club funds to cover a personal mobile phone, with bills worth more than £8,300 between March 2020 and October 2021.
