Becketts Foods is given the green light to build a 1,200 sq warehouse at its Coventry site.

A plan to expand a bacon factory is set to create new jobs, the company has said.

Becketts Foods has secured permission from the council to build a 1,200 sq ft (111.5 sq m) warehouse and distribution hub in Coventry.

The plans also see its production area on the Aldermans Green Industrial Estate being extended.

About £40,500 will be paid towards offsetting biodiversity losses from the development, a council report says.

Becketts Foods, a subsidiary of CPC which is itself part of German meat company Tönnies Group, has been based at the Henley site for 20 years.

Its development comes amid "market success" for its products and a sharp growth in its employee numbers in the city.

The firm currently employs 333 people at the site and plans to add more apprenticeship programmes, including hiring people from the local area, a planning statement on behalf of the company said.

A council officer report on the scheme said it would have "minimal impact" on neighbours and said the plans would benefit the business and the local economy.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
