Motorised vehicle ban on Lake District road reinforced

A ban on motorised vehicles using a Lake District route is back in force just two months after it was lifted.
Three years ago cars, motorbikes and 4X4s were banned from the Walna Scar Road from Coniston to the Duddon Valley to preserve it for ramblers.
But in June this year objectors persuaded a planning inspector to reopen the byway to all traffic.
But now, two months on, the High Court has quashed the decision and vehicles are once again barred.
The latest legal challenge was brought by the pressure organisation, the Green Lanes Protection Group.
Legal saga
The Lake District National Park Authority will now carry out a review and consultation into the use of the route.
A spokesman for the authority said: "This development is the latest in a legal saga lasting more than three years.
"We appeal for patience now that the authority will have to begin again the consultation process to re-examine the case.
"People need to know that currently motorbike riders and 4x4 drivers will be breaking the law if they take their vehicles on the route between the fell wall above Coniston all the way to the tarmac road near Seathwaite."
