Allotment mortar exploded by army in Cumbria

Army disposal teams have blown up a mortar found in a Cumbrian allotment.

Police said a member of the public dug up an old mortar in an allotment near to James Dunn Park, Walney.

Police attended and secured the area, cordoning the area off for public safety, remaining there overnight.

An army bomb disposal team from Catterick attended the scene on Friday and transported it to a beach on Walney. It was destroyed in a controlled explosion.
