Exploded Kendal WWII shell in garden 'posed no risk'

An exploded World War II shell dug up in a garden in Cumbria posed no risk, police said.

A man found the 20mm anti-aircraft explosive at his address in Buttermere Drive, Kendal, on Saturday.

Police were called and the shell was taken to Kendal Police station where it will be disposed of by experts.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Had it been live then we would have had to seal off the area and wait for bomb disposal experts..."
