Consultation on future of Allerdale care homes ends

A three-month public consultation into the proposed shake-up of social care in west Cumbria has been carried out.

Cumbria County Council has earmarked three homes for closure, Park Lodge in Aspatria, Woodlands in Distington and Richmond Park in Workington.

A council spokeswoman said feedback on the proposals had been both "positive and negative" and a decision on services would be made in the summer.

The council said the homes were struggling to meet residents' needs.

If the closures are approved, they would not happen for about a year and alternative places for the 59 residents would be found, the spokeswoman added.

Two homes, Inglewood in Wigton and Parkside in Maryport, have also been earmarked for an upgrade, to help them support people with dementia, as part of the proposals.

There would also be investment to allow more people to be supported at home, the council said.
